Calibration, Verification and Safety Testing

Syllabus

Course Objectives:
1.  Perform accurate calibration of flow and pressure sensors, demonstrating proficiency with reference standards and adjustment procedures.
2.  Calibrate oxygen sensors at 21% and 100% concentrations, documenting sensor response and acceptance criteria.
3.  Verify the operational parameters of a medical ventilator, including tidal volume, inspiratory pressure, PEEP, respiratory rate, and FiO2, using a calibrated gas flow analyzer and a test lung, comparing measured values to specified tolerances.
4.  Conduct comprehensive leak and compliance tests on a medical ventilator circuit, interpreting results against manufacturer specifications.
5.  Execute electrical safety tests, including leakage current measurements and ground resistance checks, adhering to recognized safety standards.
6.  Complete incoming inspection, post-repair verification, and preventive maintenance procedures, accurately documenting all actions and results in accordance with regulatory requirements and service protocols.

Grading:
Student performance will be evaluated through a combination of assessments. Knowledge checks contribute 10% to the final grade, assignments and laboratory exercises contribute 30%, quizzes contribute 25%, and the comprehensive final examination contributes 35%.

Required Equipment Familiarity:
Students are expected to possess foundational familiarity with common medical ventilator systems, gas flow analyzers, electrical safety analyzers, and standard hand tools. Prior experience with digital multimeters, pressure gauges, and gas cylinders is also beneficial.
